GateHouse Mediea
will be taking over the Eagle Publications
The Macomb Eagle has been sold to the company that owns the
Peoria Journal Star and the Macomb Journal. Eagle Publications
of Western Illinois, Inc. announced this week that it has
agreed to sell the Macomb Eagle and related publications to
GateHouse Media. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The transaction is scheduled to be completed May 31. Eagle
Publications was owned and operated by Tom and Eunice Hutson.
Included in the sale, in addition to the Macomb Eagle, were
The Abingdon Argus-Sentinel, Roseville Independent, Augusta
Eagle-Scribe, The McDonough County This Week and the new Daily
Brief. The Hutsons began publishing newspapers in the area
in 1997, with the Abingdon Argus, Avon Sentinel, Roseville
Independent and Blandinsville Star-Gazette. Eagle Publications
of Western Illinois, Inc. was created in 1999, when they started
the Macomb Eagle. |

Illinois
State Police Troopers set to take part in child safety seat
inspections
The Illinois State Police will participate in the State
Farm Child Safety Day tomorrow. This event will be held
at Cathy Early State Farm Insurance, 1221 W. Jackson in
Macomb from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During the event,
the ISP will be conducting FREE Child Safety Seat Checks.
Certified Child Safety Seat Technicians will be available
to inspect your child safety seats for proper use and
make recommendations concerning the safest practice for
transporting your child. Radio Macomb will be there broadcasting
live from 10am til noon. The purpose of the FREE Child
Safety Seat Checks is to educate parents, grandparents,
and child care providers how to properly and safely transport
children in their vehicles.

Medication disposal set to take place next week in Macomb
The McDonough County Groundwater Protection Education Committee
will be offering a free medicine disposal opportunity next
week in Macomb. If you have unwanted medicine in your home,
they encourage you to help protect your family, community
and the environment by not flushing them down the toilet
but disposing of them properly. Next Tuesday and Wednesday
May 20th and 21st, at 9am-12pm the collection will take
place at The Macomb Elk’s Club located at 401 Deer
Road in Macomb. This is a free event for environmentally
safe disposal. Items that will be collected during the collection
include prescription medications, all over the counter medication,
vitamins, samples, inhalers, liquid medication in leak proof
containers, and/or mercury thermometers. They will not be
accepting needles or syringes, medication for pets, or controlled
medication.

WIRC-CAA
is in need of children's clothing donations
The Western Illinois Regional Council-Community
Action Agency Clothing Center is in need of children’s
clothing sizes zero to 18 youth. Spring and summer clothing
is preferred, but all children’s clothing is welcome.
The WIRC-CAA Clothing Center serves those in need in Hancock,
Henderson, McDonough and Warren counties. Donations can
be made during regular operating hours Monday through Thursday
from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Clothing Center. The Clothing
Center is located at 223 South Randolph, Street in Macomb. |

All SRC offices
and services closed today
All Spoon River College offices and services will be closed
today. Summer interim classes and on-campus dual credit classes
will be held, and the Canton Campus Child Development Center
will be open. SRC staff will be participating in campus clean-up
and employee development programs.

Tracy sponsors legislation to expand a meth pilot program
Legislation sponsored by 93rd District State Representative
Jil Tracy of Mt. Sterling, which expands a methamphetamine
pilot program has been approved in the Illinois House of Representatives.
